“Glamour has some dark and beauty has some melancholy,” says American photographer Jeff Burton. In this edition of Fashion Eye, he depicts Sin City in a new light, far from the clichés of gambling and casinos, focusing instead on the city’s contradictions, from the enchantment of spectacular stage shows to the brutality of mixed martial arts competitions, punctuated by a moments suspended in time. Born in Anaheim, California in 1963, Jeff Burton graduated from the California Institute of the Arts in 1989. While working as a still photographer on gay adult film sets, Burton began taking photos of whatever caught his eye to fend off boredom between scenes. These in-between images were published to acclaim in the book Untitled (Composite Press) in 1998. Since then he has broadened his range of subjects, but always with an emphasis on sensuality. In the fashion world, he has garnered a following for the warmth with which he treats skin tones, his framing, and his way with color. Burton’s work is regularly featured in magazines like Vogue, Vanity Fair and Numéro. Inspired by the House's travel heritage, the Louis Vuitton Fashion Eye collection evokes cities, regions or countries through the eyes of fashion photographers, from emerging talents to industry legends. Each title in the series features an extensive selection of large-format photographs, together with biographical information and an interview with the photographer or a critical essay. After Louis Vuitton City Guides and Travel Books, this third collection presents travel photography with a fashion perspective, as the chosen photographers all infuse their images of great cities, faraway places or dream destinations with their unique vision.
