Argentinian photographers Sofia Sanchez and Mauro Mongiello revisit the Buenos Aires of their youth in this edition of Fashion Eye. On a journey imbued with nostalgia, they are as drawn to seemingly meaningless details as they are to the people living in the city. We see the capital first-hand, through the eyes of those who have left it behind. In frank yet faded tones, the duo’s fantasy vision, combined with their growing interest in portraiture, plays out in the streets of this city still vibrating with the soul of Jorge Luis Borges Born in Buenos Aires, Sofia Sanchez and Mauro Mongiello met while she was studying cinema and he was playing in a rock band and soon began taking photographs together. They moved to Paris in 2001 and won the Prix Picto de la Photographie de Mode the very next year. Exhibitions of their work followed at the French capital’s leading cultural institutions. Sofia and Mauro’s images are characterized by a spot-on sense of color with a touch of surrealism. Today, their photographs appear regularly in magazines including Numéro, The New Yorker, and Vogue. Inspired by the House's travel heritage, the Louis Vuitton Fashion Eye collection evokes cities, regions or countries through the eyes of fashion photographers, from emerging talents to industry legends. Each title in the series features an extensive selection of large-format photographs, together with biographical information and an interview with the photographer or a critical essay. After Louis Vuitton City Guides and Travel Books, this third collection presents travel photography with a fashion perspective, as the chosen photographers all infuse their images of great cities, faraway places or dream destinations with their unique vision.
