The word ‘perfume’, from the Latin per fumum — “through smoke” — recalls that the very first olfactory expressions were born of combustion. In the Middle East, the Bakhoor ritual embodies that tradition: placed on glowing embers, oud wood releases a perfumed smoke that permeates spaces, honors guests and marks life’s most important moments. For the first time, Louis Vuitton pays homage to an ancestral ritual at the intersection of perfume, design and the art of living by showcasing an exceptional quality of oud wood. This exceptional raw material, a Louis Vuitton exclusive, now is offered in the form of fragments, selected for their density and dark hues, signs of a high concentration of the fragrant resin. Master Perfumer Jacques Cavallier Belletrud describes its trail as “woody, spicy and ambery, with exceptional finesse and depth.”

Louis Vuitton celebrates the Bakhoor ritual through a dedicated luxury set created in collaboration with designer Nada Debs. Like a jewel box, this wooden case contains an incense burner, a presentation box for the oud fragments, special tongs, and 20 grams of oud wood. Nada Debs was inspired by the desert, “a landscape shaped by light, where colors evolve by the hour, day after day” to create a motif inspired by organic dunes which decorates both the set and the objects it contains. Assembled by hand, the incense burner and presentation box reprising the House’s graphic codes are made of walnut wood, accentuated by fine lines of brass and clad in the emblematic taurillon leather used to craft Capucines handbags, in shades of pebble, tan and chocolate. Marrying savoir-faire and contemporary elegance, this set offers a genuine journey into the heart of refined living.
